Cafe Lulu Explores a Microdosing Routine
A guide to the anti-microser life microdosing routine
Growing up is realizing you need a routine. In celebration of the upcoming Virgo season, I am challenging myself to creating a routine that compliments my life. For this exercise, I will be possibly adding some things, here and there, that could help me make bigger strives in the creative and mental health department. I used to be very creative. Now I just have a blog. Since gaining a third job in late June, I realized that I was in shambles both mentally and physically. Maybe “shambles” is an exaggeration but I found myself surviving on a few hours of rest every day with no actual purpose or goals for the day. Just in that “need to get through today” mindset. How disgusting.
Living like that is exhausting. I’m realizing that a big part of growing up is planning with plenty of time in advance. Luckily, I’m a Virgo and I enjoy planning. The downside is that I like to plan TRIPS, HANG-OUTS, DATES, not LIFE GOALS, ASPIRATIONS, DREAMS. Lots of people nowadays are also microdosing on shrooms which has led to higher levels of productivity. I think if it works for you then that’s pretty cool but I know for certain that it won’t work for me. Let’s begin with the routine and I’ll check-in next week to determine if it’s a BOOM or a DOOM. This is the second Big Justice and AJ reference I’ve made on Cafe Lulu and I’m about to 86 myself from this establishment.
Monday
Today is an interesting day for me. This has become my day-off from the restaurant because I’ve been called off from every Monday since June. Mondays are for calls, catching-up and planning. I also decided that moving forward, I will be applying a “No Contact Mondays” Garfield-esque approach where I will just dedicate Mondays to recharging after the weekend. It’s possible that I’ll break this rule occasionally.
Non negotiable will include not attending any hang-outs that involve me getting on the subway. I need Mondays for myself or low-lift hangs.
Wake up at 8:30 AM
Limit morning phone time to 15 minutes
Read a book for 20-25 minutes
Attend Meeting 1 for Client 1
Make Breakfast
Attend Meeting 2 for Client 2
Work on Client 1 from noon to 1:30 PM
Break for Lunch
Work on Client 2 from 2:30 to 4:30 PM
Eat a snack
Go out for a 45-minute walk
Cook dinner AT HOME
Relax with an enriching show like Real Housewives of Salt Lake City or a movie
Tuesday
Some Tuesdays I work out of Client 2’s office in the Financial District but often times, I don’t go in at all. I would like to start going in more consistently after September because August is just too hectic. Commuting in the summer in New York is not for the weak and I honestly hate starting my work day by arriving to the office all sweaty and a little stinky because I like natural deodorant. Below is my schedule for the days that I would WFH.
Non negotiable includes GOING to the gym on Tuesdays.
Wake up at 8:30 AM
Write for Cafe Lulu for 40-45 minutes
Repeat morning to afternoon ritual for Clients 1 & 2 (minus the meetings) as well as honor breakfast and lunch blocks
Walk or bike to the gym
Workout at gym and sauna session from 4-6:30 PM
Open to any plans, grabbing a bite to eat, etc.
Relax with an enriching show like Vanderpump Rules or a movie
Wednesday
There’s a popular tweet that’s like “don’t ask me to hang out if I have work at 4pm”. That’s literally me. If I have work at 6pm, I’m likely staying home until I have to leave. However, a coffee shop hangout sounds perfectly wonderful and doable to me.
Wake up at 8:15 AM
Walk from 8:30-9:30 AM
Repeat morning to afternoon ritual for Clients 1 & 2 (minus the meetings) as well as honor breakfast and lunch blocks
Commute to restaurant and work from 5:30-11:30 PM
Eat a gummy and relax with an enriching show like 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way or a movie
Note to my mother in case my mom reads this. During busy shifts, I feel a lot of adrenaline and I find it hard to fall asleep since I have all of this energy inside of me. I kind of sound like a dog but for I’ve noticed that if I don’t consume an edible, it’ll take at least 2 hours for me to fall asleep. I’m only eating 5MG which is so chill and it’s legal here in New York.
Thursday
No restaurant work Thursdays! Yay! I occasionally pick up my coworker’s shifts so I sometimes work on Thursdays but when I don’t, it feels sooooo good to be home. Thursdays are also an open hangout day for me and I will probably try to make plans on this day because it’s just more convenient for me.
Wake up at 8:30 AM
Draw and doodle a little my sketchbook for 20 minutes
Repeat morning to afternoon ritual for Clients 1 & 2 (minus the meetings) as well as honor breakfast and lunch blocks
Walk from 6-7:30 AM
Open to any plans like grabbing some food, going to a museum, etc.
Relax with an enriching book like Black Holes and Baby Universes and Other Essays by Stephen Hawking
Friday
I love a dang Friday. Client 2 observes summer Fridays and the work for Client 1 is typically finished by today. In the mornings, I’d like to do things that I wanna do like do yoga, visit a new bakery, or sunbathe at the park with all of my clothes on.
Another non-negotiable: I HAVE to go to yoga class on Fridays.
Wake up at 9
Yoga class or bakery or fun breakfast activity
Check emails, finish working on any loose ends
Open to any plans, grabbing a bite to eat, etc.
Relax and see where the night takes me — nothing enriching
Saturday
My job thinks it’s soooooo funny to schedule me from 3-11pm on Saturdays. Since I don’t have to go in until the afternoon, lately I’ve been scheduling brunch hang-outs so I still get my friend-time fix. It’s been very nice to hang out with friends so early in the day too.
Wake up at 9
Walk for 45 minutes to an hour
Go out for breakfast/brunch with friends
Commute and work from 2:30-11:30 PM
SOMETIMES…I go out afterwards
Sunday
Guess who’s back at the restaurant at 11 am! Me! Every Saturday I work until 11pm as a host and then 12 hours later, I’m back for round two but as a food runner. This past Sunday, I climbed 53 flights of stairs because our kitchen is in the basement floor. Weekends have become into my Monday and Tuesdays which kinda suck but at least I’m out by 4pm.
Wake up at 8:30
Commute and work from 10:30-4 PM
Open to any plans, grabbing a bite to eat, etc.
Relax with an enriching show like Love is Blind or a movie
What do you guys think of this routine? Any recommendations and what are you doing to stay sane as a working adult. I’d love to know as a nosy person.
